Update sunday 7th sept

Sunday 7th Sep
So hmmmmm time for a “training”. Update

I decided to practice adding more and more walks and increasing the length to get ready for the sponsored walk in October .
Things havent really gone to plan
Ross has been supporting me - we have walked Hollingsworth lake a few times, walked 4 miles along and back on Blackpool beach and tried to increase
Tuesday last week we headed to Clowbridge Reservoir - its 10 mins from here so seems perfect
We got out the car and tried to follow the path (shouldnt be hard right ?!?!  It’s a reservoir).  Anyway BEFORE we reached the reservoir Ross pulled something in his inner thigh area (right next to his bad break last year ) we hope not linked, but doesn’t seem to be getting any easier so , hopefully of to see the drs next week to be sure. ( I had to get the car as he couldnt even walk with my help)
I tried again solo on Friday - I mean it is me thats doing it - so why not!  I was doing well it appears to be about a 2 mile walk and quite flat and easy , I hadn’t been before but thought “it’s a reservoir … how hard can it be?”   I was following a lady about 200m ahead walking her dogs , we came to a boat / yacht kinda club , so had to come away from the waters edge, I lost sight of her and turned the corner and there were two options a tarmac path or a footpath similar to what id been walking on , and I could hear voices up that one - so went that way

Needless to say it was the wrong option and after 5 mins up this path i could see “my lady” walking with her dogs down by the reservoir and Id ended up a hill with a flock of sheep - any sensible person would have turned round and gone the correct way - (ive never claimed to be sensible) I continued. The path became just a dint in the grass - I carried on and promptly twisted my knee by falling into a hollow , no damage done ( I thought) and anyway I had to get down off this hill and stop scaring the sheep - I continued and eventually rejoined the correct path “my lady “ now a spec in the distance. LOL
Unfortunately by the time I’d got home i could hardly walk from the car to the house .

So both Ross and I have spent the entire weekend lay on the bed or settee , with legs raised hoping to rest them and help them heal , trying every now and again to stretch them and move — but No thats TOO painful for either of us

Is this what old age is going to look like ??

Anyway hopefully both of us feel better soon and are able to put weight on them and I can get back to my “practising / training”.

This healthy life , exercise, and well being , back to nature — is not quite as easy as we expected

Dont get me wrong we are both fine … just limping along. LOL

It’s given me more determination to get back out there and do this walk tho !!

Why am I doing this walk?

Saturday 30th Aug
I have struggled with underlying health issues for over 15 years , causing muscle sprains, cramps and spasms, mainly whilst Im in bed asleep the night after any exercise or activity.  The specialists words are “ There is no cure , the less you do the less reactions there will be, and any kind of exercise will make the symptoms worse, We can increase the medication however it will only help decrease the severity of the symptoms”
As you can tell that makes most forms of - well any to be honest , exercise almost impossible and so I have lived with that diagnosis and slowly done less and less and that’s helped me gain more and more weight.
Ross’s accident last January, made it that I had to do more and that led to more and more problems with my condition, but also made me realise that if I didnt do something - I was on a long slippery slope to the bottom.
By working with the correct people and slowly changing things , I have managed to increase my exercise and found ways to cope with the side affects in a less disruptive way, I have worked on portion size, and changing my relationship with food, and making much better choices, this linked with changes in medication, has started making a difference.
I have been Type 2 Diabetic for over 12 years and, my other condition didnt help with the battle to control it.
Over the past four years I have managed to loose over 5 stone in weight and at my last doctors appointment in August , The doctor told me I had managed to REVERSE my Diabetes and we now had to continue to work at it , with the end target getting off all diabetic medication and controlling it with diet and exercise.
This feels like nothing short of a MIRACLE!
So why am I doing this walk?
1… to raise money to help people who are not in my position
2… more importantly , help me , encourage me, to do more, fight through the bad muscle side affects and see if I can get back to a more healthier way of life were I can control my condition rather than IT control me !!
So really the second reason is more important to me , but both matter.
I would love it if you could encourage me in anyway, be it donating money , or meeting up with me over the next seven weeks and going for a walk , Im currently able to do 2- 3 possibly 4 miles without too bad side affects , but have to get upto 8 miles.
If we can meet up go for a walk in an evening, or a weekend etc etc , I’d appreciate the help and encouragement,
The actual walk is flat around Manchester City Centre, so hills etc are not  needed - and easily sprain my calf muscles, but any help to go for a walk and a natter and catch up , would be very much appreciated

Thank you Dave
