Our T1D Story
Welcome to my Diabetes UK Wellness Walk fundraising page!
I’m walking for Diabetes UK this September to support the 5.8 million people in the UK who live with diabetes, day in day out, including my son, River.
River was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes shortly after his 4th birthday. It was a shock to us all and the overwhelming amount of information we needed to learn and come to terms with to be a working organ for our young child was soul-numbing. The screams, tears, fear, sleepless nights, needles, fingerpricking, sensor changes, pod changes, carb counting, noticing patterns, food timings, nutritional decisions, not leaving the house without being completely prepared with medical supplies and much more... anything we knew about family life before then was thrown upside-down-inside-out and we didn't know how we were going to cope but the amazing support we received from family, friends, colleagues, doctors, nurses, technology and other families going through the same thing has made an immense difference whilst navigating through this disease these past 2 years.
It breaks my heart on tough days when he says he hates diabetes and wishes the scientists could find a cure- I would take this condition from him without a second thought but for now, he continues to grow in confidence and resilience. We are extremely proud of the absolute Roarsome Warrior that he is!
Diabetes UK are on a mission to create a world where diabetes can do no harm by funding vital research into life-changing treatments and providing support to help people to live well with diabetes. But they need our help. No matter how much you can give, it will make a difference.
So please, donate today.
Thankyou!
Love from my family to yours ❤️ x
