My Story

I’m walking with my incredible son for Diabetes UK on September 27th to support the 5.8 million people in the UK who live with diabetes, day in day out.

My son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of five. After spending five days in the hospital, which were the worst in my life, he received numerous injections and had a lot of tests, he was sent home on life-long therapy with insulin. That moment was traumatizing, life-changing and had major consequences for our family.

Living with diabetes is quite challenging, complex and hard, affecting daily life activities. However, I chose to have a positive attitude by trying to normalize the life as much as possible and support my son by teaching him the key elements of how to deal with this condition, cope and live with it in the hope of finding the cure one day!

We never slow down or stop doing anything, although it can be a lot of pressure on your shoulders, specially when unexpected events pop up throughout your day; but we went through this by being prepared and ready for the bad and enjoying the good.

After all, life is thriving again! Thank you to those who choose to continue the long journey with us to the end. A huge thank you to the incredible staff in his school for supporting him every single day with a warm heart and integrity !

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by diabetes and show they are not alone.
