Why I am walking!
Welcome to my Diabetes UK Wellness Walk fundraising page!
This year, I found out that I have diabetes.
After noticing a decline in my health - constantly feeling thirsty, losing weight, experiencing stomach pain, and a number of other symptoms, I went to see my GP. I was then admitted to hospital and was found to be on the verge of Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)!
After a couple of days in hospital, my life changed. I joined the ranks of the nearly 6 million people in the UK living with diabetes.
At the time of writing, I'm still waiting for a final diagnosis of Type 1 or Type 2, but honestly, what does that matter right now? (Although I do hear each team comes with its own jacket!)
We often think that things like this would "never happen to me", but the reality is that none of us know what's around the corner.
That's why I'm taking part in the Diabetes UK Wellness Walk. Every step helps raise awareness, supports vital research, and helps improve the lives of people living with diabetes today and in the future.
