Our Story

Welcome to my Diabetes UK Wellness Walk fundraising page!

On 2nd May 2022, our lives changed forever.

Alfie had spent the weekend with his Nana (Carol) and Auntie (Tor) before coming home on the bank holiday Monday. His dad was away on a 6 month deployment, while Mum was at home with his six-month-old baby brother. Little did we know that by the end of that day, our lives would be changed forever.

Alfie became seriously unwell and was blue-lighted to hospital with DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis), where he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

Since that day, we’ve faced endless finger pricks, injections, cannula and sensor changes, blood tests, hospital appointments, sleepless nights, highs, lows, carb counting and the constant worry that comes with managing a condition that never takes a break — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Type 1 Diabetes is relentless and invisible to so many. There are no days off, no pause button and, currently, no cure. Every single day is a balancing act between keeping Alfie safe and allowing him to simply be a little boy and enjoy his childhood.

Yet through every challenge, Alfie continues to amaze us. He faces every injection, every change, every high and every low with the biggest smile on his face. For someone so little, he has shown more strength, courage and resilience than most adults ever will.

His diagnosis was a moment that changed our family forever, but it has never defined Alfie. He continues to grow, laugh, play and thrive, taking everything that Type 1 throws at him in his stride.

We’re fundraising to help support a future where children like Alfie can live with fewer burdens, better treatment and, one day, a cure.
