My Story
Welcome to my Diabetes UK Wellness Walk fundraising page!
I’m walking for Diabetes UK this September to support the 5.8 million people in the UK who live with diabetes, day in day out. And you can too, just by making a donation.
Did you know someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes?
Diabetes UK are on a mission to create a world where diabetes can do no harm by funding vital research into life-changing treatments and providing support to help people to live well with diabetes. But they need our help. No matter how much you can give, it will make a difference.
So please donate today.

Sunday 20th Sep🚶♀️ Training for 10 miles — one walk at a time 💙
My Diabetes UK 10-mile walk is getting closer, so I’ve been putting in the miles whenever my shifts, tiredness and life allow.
My training so far has gone from 3.9 miles on my first walk, to 4.61 miles, 5.04 miles, around 4.7 miles — and today, 6.2 miles! 🎉
Today I took the train to Kew Bridge with the plan of following the Thames Path around Kew and Richmond. Of course, things didn’t go entirely to plan…
I managed to walk in completely the wrong direction for about 40 minutes, twice, before finally finding the Thames Path! But once I found it, I was on my way.
I reached Richmond Lock at 4.3 miles, having walked for around an hour and a half, with a quick five-minute stop for a much-needed mandarin 🍊… ( all I had with me since I run out of water…)
Then I carried on along the Crane Path until I reached 6.2 miles.
So that’s another milestone reached. 💪
I’m still not at 10 miles yet — but I’m getting closer with every walk.
3.8 miles to go until I’ve covered the full 10-mile distance in training.
It’s not always about having perfect training days. Sometimes you’re tired, sometimes you get lost, sometimes your body complains… and sometimes you just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Next stop: 10 miles. 🚶♀️💙
And if you’re able to support my Diabetes UK fundraising along the way, every donation means so much. Thank you for following my journey! ❤️

Today’ small walk
Monday 14th SepToday only 1.73 miles of walking plus some park exercises
Enough before a night shift…
It was such a nice, fresh day. The sun hasn’t made an appearance yet after a rainy night. Fresh air, movement, a bit of exercise and getting things done

Another walking day
Sunday 13th SepToday I walked for about an hour and a half — around 4.7 miles.
Somehow I got deliciously lost in Osterley Park, surrounded by trees, birds, a pond, September rain and beautiful multicoloured leaves.
At some point the walk turned into a combination of walking, dancing and singing… basically my own private concert, except unfortunately there were witnesses.
Yes, people occasionally saw me dancing and singing loudly. Did I care? Absolutely not. I needed the therapy, the fresh air and the opportunity to let everything out — and apparently nature makes an excellent dance floor. 💃🎶🌳
4.7 miles later, slightly wet, probably witnessed by half of Osterley, but feeling SO much better.
Very nice day. ❤️

Training day 3
Thursday 10th SepToday I completed 5.04 miles as part of my training for the 10-mile Diabetes UK walk on 27 September.
I walked from home to Syon Park, stopped for some exercises at the park gym, and then walked back home.
That means I’ve now reached just over half the challenge distance …
📍 Today: 5.04 miles
🎯 Challenge: 10 miles
✅ Completed: 50.4% of the distance
👣 Still to build towards: another 4.96 miles
📅 19 days to go!
I’m really pleased with how I’m progressing. There’s still work to do before the big day, but today has given me confidence that I can get there.
Every mile is for Diabetes UK and everyone living with Type 1 diabetes and the everyday challenges it brings.
If you can, please support my walk and help raise money for a great cause. 💙
Day 2 training
Tuesday 8th SepYesterday I walked 4.61 miles (7.4 km) in Richmond Park. It wasn’t the easiest day, but I got back out there and kept going. 💪
That’s nearly halfway to the 10 miles already — and it’s only Day 2! 🙌 and I got my first blister 😅
I’m taking it one walk at a time and building up slowly. The challenge is on 27 September, so there’s still work to do, but I’m determined to get there.
Every mile is one step closer to 10 miles — and hopefully raising some money and awareness for Diabetes UK along the way.
For people living with Type 1, there are constant decisions about insulin, blood sugar and food. With Type 2, managing medication, diet, blood sugar levels and the risk of complications can be an everyday challenge too.
And behind many people with diabetes are carers and loved ones, supporting them through the good days and the difficult ones.
