Our 10-mile challenge
Welcome to our Diabetes UK Wellness Walk fundraising page! 💙
This September, I’ll be taking on the challenge of walking 10 miles alongside my amazing 8-year-old son, Ronnie, to raise money for Diabetes UK.
Ronnie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was just 9 months old. From such a young age, he has had to deal with so much more than any child should have to, but he continues to face every challenge with incredible strength and bravery.
He makes me proud every single day. 💙 Watching him manage his diabetes while still being the happy, funny and amazing little boy he is inspires me more than I can put into words.
We’re taking on this 10-mile walk together to help raise awareness and support Diabetes UK in helping people living with diabetes and working towards a future where no one has to face it alone.

Monday 21st SepRonnie’s Story — Our Life With Type 1 Diabetes ❤️
When Ronnie was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at just 9 months old, our lives changed in a way we could never have imagined.
He was so little—too little to understand what was happening and too little for us to explain why his life suddenly involved so many things that other children never have to think about.
As his mum, I remember how frightening and overwhelming it felt. There were so many new things to learn and so many worries running through my mind. Blood sugar levels, insulin, food, highs and lows—suddenly, things I had never had to think about became part of our everyday life.
While Ronnie has grown up with diabetes, I have grown alongside him as his mum, learning how to care for him, recognise when something isn’t right and support him through the difficult days.
There are days when diabetes can feel exhausting. It can be unpredictable, and there is never really a complete break from it. Even when everything seems fine, there is always that little voice in the back of your mind wondering what his blood sugar is doing and whether he’s okay.
But through all of this, Ronnie has shown me what true strength looks like.
He has had to deal with so much from such a young age, yet he continues to get on with life. He doesn’t let diabetes stop him from being a child, having fun, making memories and doing the things he loves.
I am incredibly proud of him.
That’s one of the reasons our 10-mile Diabetes UK Wellness Walk means so much to us. We’re not just walking 10 miles to raise money. We’re walking for Ronnie, for other children living with type 1 diabetes, for their families and for a future where living with diabetes becomes easier.
I would give anything to take diabetes away from Ronnie, but until that day comes, I will always be beside him.
I will be there for the good days, the difficult days, the sleepless nights, the celebrations and every step in between.
So when we take on those 10 miles, I’ll be walking alongside my amazing little boy, feeling incredibly proud of how far he has come.
