My Story
Hey! My name is Ellie and I am 18 years old. When I was 3 I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes after becoming very ill which was life threatening.
When I was diagnosed 15 years ago Type 1 Diabetes had very little research upon the condition and in my case took a long time for me to eventually be diagnosed with it.
I first started on Insulin injections and a finger pricker to the point research and technology has adapted massively in which I am now on the closed loop which consists of a Omnipod Pump which injects insulin and a Dexcom that monitors my blood sugar levels. To see research adapt to this point has been life changing for me and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to have this within helping me manage my diabetes.
My reason for walking 10 miles to fundraise for Diabetes is for multiple reasons. Both my sisters Poppy and Bonnie also have Type 1 Diabetes and seeing them manage everyday makes me so proud and I hope I can make them proud doing this fundraiser for us and everyone else who has diabetes. With my mum and dad having three diabetic daughters, they have had sleepless nights monitoring our bloods and the constant worrying of where our blood sugars are at which I am forever thankful for them and there constant support through the highs and the lows. I also have so many loved ones around me who are always there such as my friends and my boyfriend who are always checking up on me. Doing this walk is to make myself proud living with this condition and also for those around me.
The NHS and my nurses have always been so good to me and my sisters and I would love to give back by raising money for those living with Diabetes and to contribute to further research and future cures.
Diabetes never takes a break and is something that impacts my daily life every second, every minute, every hour and every day mentally and physically. However I am positive and excited to see what the future holds.
If you would like to donate to this amazing charity I would so truly appreciate it and once again very grateful. Thankyou!
