Wellness Walk London Bridges

My Story

This year will mark 23 years since being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I participated in the Wellness Walk in 2024 raising an astonishing £650 from some very generous donations. Thank you always.

It had been an extremely tough year for me, but the walk was a great sense of achievement crossing bridge to bridge, thinking about the stages of my diabetic journey.

I’m back again, two years later, having experienced enormous changes in my life including the birth of my first baby boy. My greatest diabetic challenge to date was working out a very different diabetes throughout my pregnancy and post birth. When you’ve lived with something for what feels your entire life, it was alien to manage an unfamiliar disease which at times just didn’t make sense!

For so long I was told I would have trouble getting pregnant, let alone have children at all. All challenges aside, both myself and son are well and healthy. We did it.

Last time, I finished my story with, “why am I doing this Wellness Walk?”

This time it’s not just for me. But for my son, in hope that raising money for Diabetes UK can continue research towards preventing Type 1 Diabetes and finding a cure. This is why I’ll be performing the entire walk carrying him the whole 10miles.

I’d do anything to make sure my boy doesn’t ever go through what I’ve had to with Diabetes. But if he does, this Wellness Walk will show him the tenacity, strength, willpower and unstoppable ability of his mother, and that I’d carry him through it all.

To be continued…
