Walking for a Friend: My 5K for Diabetes UK

Monday 31st Aug
Sometimes, you don’t need to do something huge to show someone you care. Sometimes, simply putting one foot in front of the other can mean a lot.
That’s why I’m taking part in a 5K walk for Diabetes UK, to support a friend who lives with diabetes.
Diabetes is something my friend has to think about every day. It can mean managing blood glucose, making decisions about food and activity, remembering medication or treatment, and dealing with the unexpected challenges that can come with living with the condition. While I can’t take those challenges away, I can stand beside my friend and show my support.
For me, this 5K isn’t just a walk. It’s a way of saying, “I’m with you.”
I’m also taking part to help raise awareness and support the important work of Diabetes UK, an organisation that works to support people living with diabetes, fund research and help create a future where diabetes has less impact on people’s lives.
Five kilometres might not sound like a huge distance, but every step will have a purpose. I’ll be walking with my friend in mind — celebrating their strength, supporting them through the difficult days and reminding them that they don’t have to face everything alone.
I hope the walk also encourages people to learn a little more about diabetes. There are millions of people living with diabetes, and behind every statistic is a person, a family and a story.
So, on the day, I’ll be putting on my trainers, getting out there and walking those 5 kilometres with a very good reason.
For friendship.
For awareness.
For Diabetes UK.
And most importantly, for my friend.
If you’d like to support my 5K, every donation, share or kind word would mean so much. Together, we can help make a difference for people living with diabetes.
