My Story by Henry

Hello

My name is Henry and I was diagnosed when I was 2 with Type One diabetes. My Mum and Dad told me life changed forever as there is no cure and they were very upset that I had this, especially when they had to start giving me daily injections, I don’t have these anymore as I now have an insulin pump, which is good.

My parents have this to say just in case you don’t know what Type One diabetes is - this is the boring part, even I don’t know what they mean and I have it

( This is an autoimmune disease which results in Organ failure. Your body attacks the beta cells in your pancreas and these cells are vital as they produce insulin to carry sugar around your body and every cell in your body needs energy and Insulin to transport that energy- well things get very tricky indeed and it becomes life threatening. It is an incredibly hard disease to live with and requires management 24-7, 365 days a year and is forever.
Everything you want to eat or drink has to be considered and you are constantly managing your blood glucose all day, every day for the rest of your life.

On Sunday 28th September, Mum, Dad and I want to walk for Diabetes Uk to raise money and help find a cure. I want to say thank you for all the help I have and to stop other children getting this, as it is really hard and can make me feel sad as none of my friends have this. My mum and dad have said I will meet other children on the walk who are like me with type one which will be good.
