💙 Our Story 💙
Hi! We are Hardy and Sam and we are both 9 years old.
On Sunday 27th September, we are doing the Diabetes UK Wellness Walk together. We are walking with two grown-ups (because apparently we’re not allowed to go by ourselves! 😂) and we want to raise money for Diabetes UK.
There is a special reason why we are doing it.
Hardy was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in June last year, when he was 8. Type 1 diabetes means that his body doesn’t make the insulin it needs, so he has to manage his blood sugar and have insulin every day. It can be quite a lot to think about, especially when you’re a kid and just want to get on with playing, going to school and having fun.
But Hardy doesn’t let diabetes stop him doing the things he enjoys.
We also want to help people learn more about Type 1 diabetes because knowing the signs can be really important. The main signs are called the 4 Ts:
💧 Thirsty – being really thirsty
🚽 Toilet – needing to wee a lot
😴 Tired – being much more tired than usual
📉 Thinner – losing weight without trying
We didn't know much about Type 1 diabetes before Hardy was diagnosed, so we think it is really important that more people know what to look out for.
Sam wanted to do the walk too because he is Hardy's friend and wants to support him. We thought it would be more fun to do it together — and probably easier if we can talk rubbish to each other all the way round! 😂
So please support us if you can. Every donation, big or small, will help Diabetes UK support people living with diabetes and help raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes.
We are going to put our walking shoes on, walk the walk and hopefully raise lots of money along the way!
