Wellness Walk London Bridges

My Story

Hi,

Welcome to my Diabetes UK Wellness Walk fundraising page!

Someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes, and Diabetes UK are on a mission to create a world where diabetes can do no harm by funding vital research into life-changing treatments and providing support to help people to live well with diabetes.

On Sunday, 27 September, I will be walking 5 miles over 5 London Bridges with my family to raise awareness for Diabetes UK. This is my story….

I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 in October 2024, and it took me completely by surprise. It changed my life! Aside from the fact I have a high risk of developing this horrible illness because of my ethnicity and family history, it was an illness I could have prevented through better diet and exercise. I was put on medication and registered on a fantastic diabetes awareness and management program, with constant reviews and assessments. I also personally made some major lifestyle changes. With real dedication and determination, my markers are much better now (back in pre-diabetes and I feel so much better even though I know I will always live with diabetes.

I’m walking for Diabetes UK to support the 5.8 million people in the UK who live with diabetes, day in day out. This is my first year and I’m really looking forward to helping to make this happen. I would be eternally grateful if you would support me just by donating. No matter how much you can give, it will make a difference.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Always,

Bolatito Nihma’t Raji

My Updates

Ending August with a bang!

Tuesday 1st Sep
31 August was my best day since I started taking my walking routine seriously and started training for the wellness walk! Approximately 5.2 miles before 9am and then over 5 miles again while enjoying the Notting Hill Carnival in West London! I'm sure i did double the steps recorded by my phone, maybe because i was also using my phone to take hundreds of pictures. 2026 carnival (60th anniversary): Spectacular floats, colourful beautiful costumes, wonderful music, good food and all-in-all enjoyable day out! Till next time, thank you for your support. Your donations mean a lot and I do appreciate every £ given!

Last full week of August: 24-30 August

Tuesday 1st Sep
Upwards and forwards! I walked almost 50 miles this week, with an average of 7.14 miles per day and average of 1,071 more steps per day than last week! My training moto is to walk at least 5 miles straight everyday, and, Alhamdulilah, I've been able to stick to that. I'm hoping this means the walk on 27 Sept will be a breeze! Wish me luck and keep donating! I truly appreciate your support!

August week 4: 17-23 August

Sunday 30th Aug
Another improvement from last week! Hooray! 46.66 miles walked, with an average of 6.67 miles each day!

August week 3

Sunday 30th Aug
Total distance for the week went up (45.68 miles), resulting in daily walk of 6.53 miles. A big pat on the back!

August week 2

Sunday 30th Aug
Total distance this week was 41.75 miles, resulting in an average of 5.96 miles daily. Gone lower than the previous week again but all good!

August week 1 - 02/08/26

Sunday 30th Aug
On 2nd of August, total distance walked was 6.63 miles. Lower than yesterday (01/08/26) but good nonetheless.

August Week 1 - 01/08/26

Sunday 30th Aug
Total distance on Saturday 1st of August was an impressive 6.46 miles! A pat on my back, if I must say!!!

July training - back on track with my training

Sunday 30th Aug
174.19 miles walked in total. That's an average of 5.61 miles a day. Alhamdulillah, it’s looking like I will be able to actually take part in the walk! Hooray!! I promised myself I will only register (instead of just supporting on the sideline) if I’m able to walk at least 5 straight miles at least 25 days of the month. I achieved this and I was doubly proud of myself!

June training update

Sunday 30th Aug
I wasn't very active in June due to unforeseen circumstances so I was actually only able to take my daily 5-mile walks during the last 2 weeks of the month. Total distance covered was 69.3 miles, averaging 2.31 makes daily.

May - First month of training for the wellness walk

Sunday 30th Aug
I started training for the wellness walk in May and as can be seen in the snip above, i clocked 173.61 miles that month. That’s approximately 5.6 miles per day. So proud of myself!
