Wellness Walk London Bridges

My Story

Welcome to my Diabetes UK Wellness Walk fundraising page!

I’m walking on Izzy’s ‘Team Jelly Babies’ for Diabetes UK this September to support the 5.8 million people in the UK (including my mum Aileen and Izzy) who live with diabetes day in day out. And you can too, just by making a donation.

Did you know someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes?

Diabetes UK are on a mission to create a world where diabetes can do no harm by funding vital research into life-changing treatments and providing support to help people to live well with diabetes. But they need our help. No matter how much you can give, it will make a difference.

So please donate today if you can afford to and haven’t already sponsored the others on our team 😉 🙏🏻

Diabetes is a full-time job - there are no days off!

Saturday 12th Sep
Diabetes has been present in my life for over 45 years, since my mum was diagnosed with type 1 during pregnancy. Back then my mum just got on with it and we simply have had an awareness of it ever since with managing blood sugar via finger prick tests and old fashioned injections at meal times and treating hypos with glucose tablets became part of day to day family life growing up. I have loved and still love reading ‘Balance’ magazine from Diabetes UK and learning more about the condition and the amazing research and technology advances to help those living with diabetes live safer, healthier lives with more freedom.
As a family in the last few years we’ve taken on a more active role in my mums blood sugar monitoring and insulin / carb counting following a stroke which affected her ability to manage these aspects; and in doing so we have a whole new level of understanding of how diabetics have to constantly have half an eye on their blood sugar levels at all times; everything they do, everything they eat & drink has an impact on their blood sugar! And then they must also accept the frustration that the human body doesn’t necessarily behave predictably or consistently from day to day, be it the metabolism, be it the time of day, be it the food composition, be it activity levels - even on previous days …. the formula for managing diabetes has endless factors to consider!
Diabetics managing their condition have my total respect!
The work of Diabetes UK towards a cure, better management and awareness of diabetes of all of all types and support they provide to diabetics to learn and live positively with the condition is amazing and essential,

Thank you to my Sponsors
