10 Miles for a Cure: Turning My Diagnosis into Action!

Earlier this year, my world changed when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Overnight, my life became a 24/7 balancing act of tracking carbs, calculating insulin, and managing my levels. I now rely on a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) attached to my body just to keep me safe around the clock. There are no breaks and no days off from T1D.

What is Type 1 Diabetes?
Unlike type 2 diabetes, T1D is an autoimmune condition—not a lifestyle or diet choice. The body’s immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Without insulin, the body cannot convert glucose (sugar) into energy, making sugar dangerous if left unmanaged.

The Treatment vs. The Cure:
• The Treatment: There is currently no cure. To survive, I must act as my own pancreas. This means using a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) and calculating and injecting insulin multiple times a day.
• The Cure: Every pound you donated goes directly to Diabetes UK, which is actively funding ground-breaking research to find a cure. Scientists are currently running trials on advanced artificial intelligence delivery networks, immunotherapies, and stem-cell transplants to restore natural insulin production.

Instead of letting this diagnosis hold me back, I am taking action. I am walking 10 miles to raise vital funds for Diabetes UK and for contributing to a future where type 1 diabetes is history

Whether you can spare a little or a lot, your support means the world to me and helps drive us closer to a future where no one has to live with the daily burden of this condition.

Every pound raised fuels ground-breaking research, provides crucial support packs for the newly diagnosed, and brings us closer to an ultimate cure.

Thank you so much for your generousity and standing with me!

Kind Regards
