My Story
In September, I’ll be walking 10 miles to raise money for Diabetes UK, a charity that is incredibly close to my heart.
My Dad has lived with Type 1 diabetes for my entire life. To be honest, I’ve never really known him any other way. What amazes me most is that he never sees himself as having a life changing condition! He just gets on with life, manages the countless daily challenges that come with Type 1 diabetes, and never lets it define him. Growing up, I don’t think I truly appreciated how much strength, discipline and resilience that takes every single day.
More recently, one of my closest friends, Nicky was also diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Seeing someone I love begin that journey has reminded me just how life-changing this condition can be. While treatments and technology have improved enormously, there is still no cure, and managing diabetes is a 24/7 commitment that never takes a day off.
I’m doing this walk for my Dad, for Nicky, and for the millions of people living with diabetes across the UK. Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps fund vital research, support services and progress towards a future where nobody has to live with this condition.
If you’re able to spare a few pounds, I’d be hugely grateful. Thank you for supporting me and this amazing cause.
