My Story - It's my 10 yr Diaversary 💙

Welcome to my Diabetes UK Wellness Walk fundraising page!

I’m walking for Diabetes UK this September to celebrate a decade of living with Diabetes and to support the other 5.8 million people in the UK who live with diabetes, day in day out. You can support too, just by making a donation.

I have Type 1 Diabetes, which is an autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks itself, killing off the insulin-producing cells in my pancreas. Meaning I have been put on manual mode for the rest of my life!

I was diagnosed in 2016, I had just started sixth form and had been poorly for a couple of weeks, we all put it down to the new school year. After being sent home for "falling asleep in class" my parents knew something wasn't right. After heading to the doctors whilst being in and out of consciousness, I was diagnosed on the spot. After spending a week in the Hospital, I was handed some insulin vials, needles, and a blood testing machine and I was out and had to get on with life.

No, my diabetes has not "got better" - nothing's changed. I still have a broken organ; I have just had 10 years of getting used to the finger pricks, injections, 24/7 monitoring, highs, lows, and my body's response to the 42 factors that affect blood glucose.
